We are #NewBernStrong.
This is our recovery story.
On September 14th and 15th, 2018, Hurricane Florence pushed a wall of water up the Neuse river and into the town of New Bern, NC. Our city is no stranger to Hurricanes with over 160 visiting since the town was founded in 1710. Florence was the proverbial “perfect storm” however, with her northeast quadrant unleashing its full fury on New Bern. As water levels rose, and winds screamed through the streets, massive damage was imposed on property and people. The full extent of the hurricane’s impact is still being assessed, but total economic losses are likely to approach $200 Million.

“The devastation from Florence is hard to comprehend. But I know the character of the New Bern’s citizens and I’m confident they will work together to rebuild their beautiful riverside community.” –Buddy Bengel
Since New Bern’s founding by Swiss and German explorers, the people of New Bern have always been industrious and resilient. This sprit is now evident in our recovery as neighbors help neighbors to repair their homes, re-open their businesses, and return life to normal.
There is much hard work to do, but we are strong and united in our efforts. We wish to thank all the people who have volunteered their time, supplies, and money to help us as we get back on our feet… we are deeply grateful. #NoLetUp!
